Transcribe Video & Audio to Text

Turn a recording into timestamped text. Paste a link from YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Twitch, or Dailymotion, or upload a file. Free to start — a one-time 30-minute allowance, no card.

How it works

  1. Paste a link or upload your file. Copy the URL of a YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Twitch, or Dailymotion video and paste it into the input field — or upload an audio or video file (MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, MP4, MOV, WebM) from your device.
  2. Click Transcribe. DomeScribe runs the audio through OpenAI's Whisper model. The language is detected automatically from 99 supported languages — there is nothing to configure.
  3. Wait a few minutes. Processing takes roughly a tenth of the recording's length: a 10-minute clip is usually done in about a minute, a 30-minute episode in a few minutes. YouTube videos with a caption track come back faster.
  4. Read, export, or keep going. The transcript appears on screen with timestamps. With a free account you can copy it or download it as plain text (DOCX, PDF, and JSON on paid plans), then ask for a summary or turn it into show notes, a blog post, or social posts.

Frequently asked questions

What file formats does DomeScribe transcription support?

DomeScribe can transcribe audio and video files in all major formats including MP4, MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, WebM, and MOV. You can also paste a URL from YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Twitch, or Dailymotion and DomeScribe will handle the rest.

How accurate is the transcription?

DomeScribe uses OpenAI's Whisper model. Accuracy depends on audio quality, background noise, and speaker clarity — clear, close-miked speech comes out very well; crowded rooms and heavy music beds less so.

What languages are supported for transcription?

DomeScribe transcribes 99 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, and Hindi. The language is detected automatically; there is nothing to select.

Is DomeScribe transcription free?

It is free to start. You can transcribe a short clip from a link without an account; a free account adds a one-time 30-minute allowance (up to 30 minutes per file) and 5 AI credits, with no card required; paid plans add monthly minutes — 1,000 a month on Pro, 5,000 on Business.

How long does transcription take?

Roughly a tenth of the recording's length: a 10-minute clip takes about a minute, a 30-minute episode a few minutes. YouTube videos that already have a caption track come back in seconds because DomeScribe uses the captions instead of running Whisper.

What is the best free transcription tool online?

DomeScribe is one of the more complete options to start free: it converts video and audio to text in 99 languages, accepts links from seven platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X/Twitter, Vimeo, Twitch, Dailymotion) as well as direct uploads, and a free account includes 30 minutes to start — most competitors handle uploads only, in fewer languages. Original uploads are deleted after processing, a compressed audio copy stays only for in-app playback, and transcripts are encrypted and auto-deleted after 30 days.

How do I transcribe a video to text?

Paste the video's URL into DomeScribe (or upload the file) and click Transcribe — the language is detected automatically and the full text appears after roughly a tenth of the video's length. A free account includes 30 minutes of transcription to start, with no software to install.

Can I get a transcript with timestamps?

Yes. Every transcript is broken into segments marked with their time in the recording — useful for finding quotes, editing video, or creating show notes. Speaker labels (who said what) are not available.
