How it works

  1. Upload your video file. Select a video file from your device — DomeScribe accepts MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI, and MKV. There is no need to extract the audio first; DomeScribe handles it automatically.
  2. Begin transcription. Click Transcribe. DomeScribe separates the audio track from the video container on the server and runs it through Whisper. Language is detected automatically.
  3. Wait for processing. Large video files take longer to upload; once uploaded, transcription takes roughly a tenth of the recording's length. Free accounts can upload up to 30 minutes and 50 MB per file.

Do I need to extract the audio before uploading a video?

Which video formats are supported?

DomeScribe accepts MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI, and MKV files. These cover virtually every common video format from phones, cameras, screen recorders, and editing software.

Can I transcribe screen recordings with narration?

Screen recordings are an excellent use case. The narration audio is usually clean and free of background noise, which is where Whisper does its best work.

Will DomeScribe capture on-screen text from the video?

DomeScribe only transcribes spoken audio — it does not perform optical character recognition on visual text. If important information appears only as text on screen, it will not be included in the transcript.

How large of a video file can I upload?

Free accounts can upload video files up to 50 MB and 30 minutes long; Pro raises that to 500 MB and 4 hours, Business to 2 GB and 8 hours.
