How to turn a podcast episode into short clips

  1. Transcribe the episode

    Upload the episode file in Transcribe Studio (or paste the YouTube or Vimeo link for a published episode). The transcript is timestamped line by line, which is what the clip finder works from.

  2. Scan for clips

    Open Clips and run the scan. You get a ranked pool of moments — each with start and end times, the quote a listener would screenshot, one sentence on the hook and the payoff, and the platforms it suits. Click a timecode to hear it first.

  3. Cut the moment

    For an episode you uploaded, cut the pick in the browser: a video source gives you an MP4, an audio source gives you an audio clip. The file is not uploaded for this step. Cutting is part of the paid plans.

  4. Reframe a video clip to 9:16

    Open the clip in Clip Studio, choose Stack for two hosts or Full for a single speaker, record your framing while it plays, and generate captions from the transcript.

  5. Export and post

    Export a 1080×1920 MP4 rendered in your browser and post it to TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts. Come back to the same project for the next pick.

Video podcast vs. audio-only podcast: what you get

The picks are the same either way — DomeScribe reads the transcript, so a video podcast and an audio-only episode produce the same kind of ranked list. What differs is what can be made from a pick. A video episode you uploaded can be cut into an MP4 clip in the browser and then reframed to vertical in Clip Studio, with captions burned in. An audio-only episode can be cut into an audio clip, and every pick carries its transcript text to copy — the material for a quote card, a caption, or a waveform video you build in your own design tool. DomeScribe does not generate a video from an audio file.

How the picks are chosen

One scan builds the episode’s whole pool of moments; the app then reveals them a few at a time. The scan scores every candidate against a rubric built for short-form: a first sentence that works cold, a payoff the clip ends right after, a self-contained idea that needs none of the rest of the episode, and tight pacing — the prompt prefers 20–45 second moments and goes up to 75 seconds only when the payoff needs it. Every pick must score at least 70 out of 100, and the scan is told that fewer is fine: a 40-minute conversation might yield a dozen, a thin one two or three.

Each pick tags the platforms it suits — YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, TikTok, or LinkedIn — based on whether the moment is punchy and emotional or a concrete professional insight. Picks never overlap, so a passage with two strong moments becomes two clips.

Cutting a video podcast for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts

Most video podcasts are recorded wide — two hosts side by side, or a remote guest in a grid. Clip Studio is built for exactly that conversion. Upload the MP4, MOV, WEBM, or MKV; pick a layout (Stack puts two speakers top and bottom, Trio handles three, Spotlight puts your chosen frame above the whole scene, Full follows one speaker, Inset and Wide keep the original picture over a blurred backdrop); then press Record and steer the frame while the clip plays, the way a camera operator follows the person talking. Switch layouts mid-take when the guest starts answering. Made a bad cut? Back up a few seconds and roll again.

Captions are generated from the transcript of exactly what your takes cover, so you only spend transcription minutes on the seconds that end up in the clip. Choose a preset, font, colour, and size, drag the caption box into place, and export a 1080×1920 MP4. The render happens in your browser; the episode file never uploads — only the audio your takes cover is sent, and only when you ask for captions.

Getting more from the same episode

The transcript that produced the picks also feeds the rest of the week’s content. From the same workspace, a one-credit Summary gives you a TL;DR, key points, action items, and timestamped chapters; Repurpose writes show notes, a blog post, a LinkedIn post, an X thread, a YouTube description, or a newsletter section; and Chat answers questions about the episode with timestamped citations. A clip’s quote makes a good first line for the LinkedIn post that links to it.

Can DomeScribe turn an audio-only podcast into video clips?

No — DomeScribe does not generate video from an audio source. For an audio-only episode you get the AI picks (timecodes, quote, reason, platform fit), each pick’s transcript text to copy, and, for an uploaded file on a paid plan, an audio clip cut in the browser. Vertical video export in Clip Studio is for video podcasts.

How does it pick which moments to clip?

One AI scan reads the timestamped transcript and keeps only the 15–75 second moments with a cold-open hook, a clear payoff, and a self-contained idea, scored 70 or higher out of 100. Each pick carries timecodes, the strongest quote, a one-sentence reason, a score, and the platforms it suits.

How long are the clips?

Between 15 and 75 seconds, always on sentence boundaries. The finder favours 20–45 seconds for TikTok and Reels, 25–55 for YouTube Shorts, and up to 75 for LinkedIn.

Does it add captions to the clips?

Yes, in Clip Studio: captions are generated from the transcript of the exact seconds your takes cover and burned into the 1080×1920 export. Caption styling (preset, font, colour, size, position) is yours to set. Captions use transcription minutes and are part of the paid plans.

Can I paste my episode’s YouTube link instead of uploading?

Yes, for the picks. Paste a YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X (Twitter), Vimeo, Twitch, or Dailymotion link and DomeScribe transcribes it and finds the moments. You get timecodes and text; DomeScribe never produces a media file from a link, so you cut the clip from your own copy of the episode.

What does it cost?

The first clip scan of an episode costs 2 AI credits and each later “find more” costs 1; free accounts start with 5 credits and Pro includes 300 a month. Transcribing the episode uses plan minutes (30 free to start; Pro 1,000 a month). Cutting and vertical export of your own footage are paid-plan features.

Does the episode file get uploaded?

For transcription, yes — the file is sent to DomeScribe’s servers, transcribed by a speech-recognition model, and the upload is deleted afterwards; the transcript is encrypted and auto-deletes after 30 days. Cutting a pick and editing or exporting in Clip Studio happen in your browser, with no upload of the video.
