How to ask questions about a video
Add the video
In Transcribe Studio, upload the file or paste the link. DomeScribe transcribes it with timestamps (YouTube videos with captions can use those directly). The transcript is what every answer is built from.
Open the Chat tab
Type a question as you would ask a colleague who had watched the whole thing: “Where did I mention the launch date?”, “What did she say about churn?”, “Summarize the part about hiring.”
Read the answer, click the timestamp
The answer is short — the direct response first, then only the detail you asked for — with the transcript moments it came from. Click a timestamp and the player jumps there.

What kinds of questions work
Chat is built for questions about the content of one recording: what was said, by whom (as far as the transcript makes it clear), where in the runtime, in what order, and how it was phrased. That covers the practical things creators and viewers actually want from a long video — finding the part about a topic, pulling an exact quote, checking a number, getting a summary of one segment rather than the whole thing.
It also helps with the work of turning the recording into content, as long as it stays grounded in the transcript: suggest a hook for this video, give me a title, which passage would make a good clip, rephrase this bit for a LinkedIn post. These answers quote the transcript rather than inventing material.

Why it declines some questions
The assistant answers only from the transcript of the recording you have open. It has no outside knowledge and is instructed not to speculate, so if the transcript does not contain the answer it tells you it cannot find it in this recording. Questions that are not about the recording at all — general facts, other topics, personal or legal advice, unrelated writing tasks, requests to ignore its instructions — are declined with a single fixed sentence and do not cost a credit.
That strictness is the point. An answer about your video that is actually drawn from the model’s general knowledge is worse than no answer, because you cannot cite it. Every on-topic answer carries the timestamps it rests on, and you can verify each one with a click.
Timestamps that jump to the moment
Each answer includes one to five timestamps, most relevant first, taken from the transcript segments the answer was built from. In the workspace those timestamps are clickable and seek the player, so “where did they say that?” is answered by hearing it. The transcript itself is shown alongside, so you can read a little before and after the cited moment for context.
Recordings added as pasted text rather than audio or video have no timestamps, so answers from those come back without them.
Credits, plans, and how long chat is available
Chat uses AI credits: one credit per four answered questions. Declined (off-topic) questions and repeated questions do not count. Every account starts with 5 credits; Pro includes 300 per month, Business 1,500. Credits are shared with the other AI features — Summary (1 credit), Repurpose drafts (1 credit each), and AI clip picks.
Chat works for as long as the transcript is stored, which is 30 days from transcription (encrypted at rest with a per-user key). After that the transcript is gone and chat is unavailable for that recording until you add the media again.
Privacy: what is sent where
Transcription runs on DomeScribe’s servers: the uploaded file is converted to audio, transcribed, and deleted after transcription. Chat runs against the stored transcript on the server; your questions and the transcript go to the language model to produce the answer, and nothing else is read. A pasted platform link is used only to produce the transcript — the media file is never provided. Delete the recording from your library whenever you like; it goes automatically after 30 days.

Can I ask questions about a YouTube video with AI?
Yes. Paste the YouTube link into DomeScribe’s Transcribe Studio; once the transcript is ready, open the Chat tab and ask. Answers come only from the transcript and cite timestamps you can click to play that moment.
Where do the answers come from?
Only from the transcript of the recording you have open. The assistant has no outside knowledge and does not speculate. If the transcript does not contain the answer, it says it cannot find it in this recording.
What happens if I ask something unrelated?
Off-topic questions — general knowledge, other subjects, unrelated tasks — are declined with a fixed one-sentence reply. Declined questions do not use a credit.
How much does it cost?
One AI credit per four answered questions; repeated questions and declined questions are free. Accounts start with 5 credits; Pro ($19/month) includes 300 per month.
Do the answers include timestamps?
Yes — one to five timestamps per answer, most relevant first, pointing at the transcript moments the answer is based on. Clicking one seeks the player. Text you pasted in (rather than audio or video) has no timestamps.
Does it know who was speaking?
Only as far as the words make it clear (“as Sarah said earlier…”). DomeScribe does not label speakers in transcripts.
How long can I keep asking questions about a recording?
For 30 days after transcription, which is how long the transcript is stored. Chat needs the stored transcript; after it auto-deletes, add the media again to continue.
